Witness

In Witness the photographic medium is put at the service of the place, rather than the observer. It is a site-specific intervention with cyanotype on the windows of the entrance to Space 21, a community based studio space for students of Aalto University in Helsinki.

The glasses are coated with the photographic emulsion, that constantly reacts to sunlight and humidity. Changing in density and colour over time, the work explores the transparency and opacity of photographic gaze. Both window-to-the-world and mirror- to-the-self, Witness I explores what an entangled vision could be, as observing, is never a passive act.
